The formal proceedings of the event will begin at 1pm. Like other pro-merger parties, JI has been actively campaigning for making Fata as part of the KP province as well as abolishing the FCR law. To have participation in the jirga, invitations have already been extended to various political and religious parties. The event will be presided over by the JI acting Chief Liaqat Baloch, while KP minister for local government Inayatullah Khan, who also belongs to the JI, will represent the provincial government.
The JI had already set a deadline for staging a sit-in in Islamabad, if the federal government didn't make tribal areas as part of the province by December 31, which the government didn't meet. Thus, in the prevailing situation, this jirga would also discuss the proposed sit-in in Islamabad, wherein the participants would reiterate to implement the recommendations of the Fata Reforms Committee.
Meanwhile, the JI has threatened that the proposed 'sit-in' in Islamabad would be staged for indefinite period of time, and it would be only ended if the government announced Fata integration with the KP. Besides other important points, the two major points among the recommendations were that Fata should be merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which is not only a viable solution to this long standing issues but also a demand of the majority of tribal people and political parties.
It is worth mentioning here that except JUI-F of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PkMAP of Mehmood Khan Achakzai, the entire political leadership and tribesmen were demanding Fata's integration with KP, but unfortunately, the federal government was now delaying the process.
